A 26-year-old mother was shot and died in the backseat of a car with her four-year-old kid.

Dayton Police reported that the lady, Jermea Lyle, 26, was shot on Saturday morning at about 7 a.m. while riding in the backseat of her boyfriend’s car with their 4-year-old kid.

As reported on News Center 7 at 5:00, Jason Bates, Sr. stated that his son called him Saturday morning, yelling that he was driving his girlfriend, Lyle, to the hospital.

Lyle was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by her boyfriend, where she eventually died.

“My granddaughter lost her mother,” Bates explained. “My son is broken.”

Police confirmed that Lyle’s boyfriend was transporting a buddy home from the airport. He went down I-75 and took the ramp to westbound US 35. There were no signs of danger.

“I can tell you from I-75, the view that we have coming from the airport — coming from the north, there’s no indication of any road rage,” Dayton Police Major Brian Johns said. “There’s no vehicle following our victim’s vehicle.”

Lyle’s boyfriend informed police that he observed two automobiles exit onto Germantown Street immediately after hearing the shot. Police shut down the ramp and discovered a single gunshot casing. The police believe the two cars may have exited I-75 north onto US 35 West and were involved in a road rage incident in which someone shot a weapon.

Bates stated that he wanted to know who did this to his granddaughter’s mother.

“Insane is my only word,” Bates declared. “I just don’t understand.”

Police say the two cars that exited shortly following the incident were a blue Impala and a white vehicle.
