On Friday evening, a guy from Springfield, Massachusetts, who was 25 years old, was struck and killed by a train.
Immediately after 9:40 p.m., some agencies arrived at the incident, which was located in the 4100 block of Ostermeier Road, which is situated between Chatham and Auburn.
Employees of Union Pacific reported to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office that they observed a pedestrian lying on the west side of the tracks as one of their freight trains was traveling in the south direction. The train couldn’t come to a stop before it hit him.
When first responders arrived, the person had already passed away, according to the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office.
These first responders included the Chatham Fire Department, the Chatham Police Department, the Pawnee Police Department, and the Auburn Police Department. It was also requested that the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office assist in the investigation.
The inquiry into this accident is still ongoing.
