A senior at Gaylesville High School is recovering after she was run over by a vehicle over the weekend.
According to the mother of the victim, on Saturday evening approximately 6:45 she was standing in her grandmother’s driveway on County Road 80. An SUV driven by Terry Drake veered off of the road and struck 17 year old Angelina Rose Sims, pinning her underneath the vehicle. She was able to free herself as the driver of the vehicle attempted to drive out of the ditch.
Sims was taken to Floyd Medical Center and later released after suffering cuts, scrapes and a bruised hip. The victim’s mother, Christie Selman told WEIS Radio News that she has filed an official complaint with the Alabama Ethics Commission in regards to why the driver was not administered a field sobriety/drug test.
Drake was cited for an improper tag. The Gaylesville Fire Department, Floyd EMS and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.
