Walker Courthouse Damaged By Vehicle Running Into Front of Building

The Walker County Courthouse was damaged when a vehicle ran into the front of the building, early Saturday morning.    LaFayette Police first spotted the Chevy Trailblazer at 1:45 a.m. on North Chattanooga Street and started following when the vehicle ran a stop sign.  It picked up speed running more stop signs and a red light, before crashing into the Courthouse building at the corner of Duke and Patton.
The driver, identified as 41 year old Dennis Hamilton Wiley, had alcohol on his breath, according to the report.  Marijuana, a glass pipe and an open container of alcohol were recovered from the vehicle.
Wiley was charged with DUI, possession of drugs and fleeing.
Walker County Probate Court will be closed all this week due to damage to their office in the Courthouse, by order of Chief Judge Kristina Graham.
Walker County’s insurance adjuster will bring in an engineer to survey the damage.
