One of Chattooga County’s last remaining World War II Veteran’s is about to celebrate his 96th birthday and his family is asking the community to send cards.
Mr. Billy Locklear is Chattooga County’s last surviving veteran of the Battle of Saipan. He served in the United States Marine Corps and received the Purple Heart and many other medals. Mr. Locklear served between 1943 and 1945, which included fighting at the Battle of Saipan in June 1944.
Mr. Locklear’s family says, “Due to continued risk of infection, we are asking everyone to send cards, notes, and best wishes to him.”
