The Walker County Commission will have a special called meeting to discuss a resolution placing a temporary moratorium on applications for “Mega Poultry Operations” here.
The resolution being considered is quote: “for the purpose of enacting a temporary emergency moratorium on the acceptance of applications regarding new large scale commercial agriculture operations or the expansion of existing confined feeding/commercial agriculture operations”.
A number of poultry operators are looking for sites in Northwest Georgia… some of which could contain up to 65-thousand chickens. The proposed resolution says they would “not be consistent with the family farm operations that have been common in Walker County”.
The work session will be held at the Walker County Civic Center on Wednesday, June 23rd at 7 p.m.
