Two Children Seriously Injured In Fire; Airlifted to Atlanta Hospital

Two children were injured in house fire off North Broad Street Friday morning.

According to Rome Fire Marshal Mary Catherine Chewning, firefighters responded to a call at 52 Washington Street off Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. When they arrived they discovered that two children, ages 5 and 10, were trapped in the home.

Firefighters immediately made entry to the home and rescued the children

They were then transported to Floyd Medical Center and then later airlifted to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta.

Both are in critical condition.

Neither of the grandparents suffered physical injuries

The origin of the fire was in a utility room on the main level of the home.
