Man Who Caused Fatal Crash Sentenced

A Fort Oglethorpe man who admitted causing a fatal crash as he attempted to evade police, has been sentenced to 14 years.
Douglas Cody Gass, 25, was fleeing Fort Oglethorpe Police, who were trying to pull him over for reckless driving in Catoosa County in October, 2019.
After the pursuit continued across state line into Chattanooga, Gass lost control of the car and hit a power pole, pinning one of his two passengers, 19-year old Kobe Burchfield, in the vehicle.  Burchfield died in a fire on the scene.  Gass fled the area on foot… and was later arrested in Florida.
The sentence is 6 years for vehicular homicide, 4 years for evading arrest and 4 years for reckless aggravated assault.  Gass may be released on probation after serving 10 years in prison.
