Rental Car With Florida License Plates, Stolen Out of New Hampshire Lands 2 Persons in Jail

Two people were arrested following what was supposed to be a simple traffic stop by Centre Police.

Officer Brandon Hayes stopped a black Nissan Versa between Centre and Cedar Bluff for a headlight violation. After running the vehicles Florida license plates, it was discovered the rental car was stolen out of New Hampshire.

Both occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Cherokee County Detention Center.

38 year old Jonathan Wade McGatha of Piedmont was charged with Domestic Violence 3rd Degree and Rachel Marie Burlington, 32 of Rome was charged with Receiving Stolen Property 1st Degree.

Bond for Burlington has been set at $5000 and Bond for McGatha $2500.
