North Georgia EMC serves residents in Northwest Georgia, including Chattooga County, and the member-owned utility is warning members again about a scam.
NGEMC recently received a report of a scammer working inside their service area. The scammer attempted to issue a work order number to a member for a meter change-out, stating that the member would be disconnected if they did not give the scammer credit card information for payment.
The member was told to call an 888 number. NGEMC does not have an 888 number. There is no charge for ongoing meter change-outs across NGEMC’s system, and they do not ask for credit card information over the phone.
If you receive a call from anyone threatening you with disconnection, please hang up immediately and call NGEMC.
You can reach the Trion office of NGEMC at 706-734-7341.
