Man Pleads Guilty to Causing Fatal Crash

A Fort Oglethorpe man who allegedly caused a fatal crash as he attempted to evade police has pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide, reckless aggravated assault and evading arrest charges, according to the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office.
Douglas C. Gass, 25, was fleeing Fort Oglethorpe Police, who were trying to pull him over for reckless driving in Catoosa County in October, 2019.  After the pursuit continued across state lines into Chattanooga, Gass lost control of the car and hit a power pole on East 38th Street, pinning one of his two passengers, 19-year old Kobe Burchfield, in the vehicle.  Burchfield died in a fire on the scene.  Gass then fled the area on foot.
