Authorities are seeking the whereabouts of a Cedar Bluff man who was airlifted to UAB in Birmingham for treatment after being involved in a high speed pursuit with Calhoun County authorities over the weekend.
According to a news release issued on Monday to WEIS Radio News on Monday from Weaver Police Chief Wayne Bush, his officers conducted a traffic stop on Alabama Highway 21 on a 1999 Honda Accord for a traffic violation. As additional Weaver Officers arrived to assist, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen out of Floyd County, Georgia back on March, 19th. The pursuit continued through Jacksonville and into Piedmont and finally ended when the driver crashed and flipped the vehicle near Philadelphia Church Road.
Chief Bush told WEIS Radio News that charges are pending against 32 year old John Edward Whitmire of Cedar Bluff for Receiving Stolen Property, Attempting to Elude and Drug Possession.
According to information obtained by WEIS Radio News, Cherokee County authorities were notified that Whitmire was involved in some sort of a domestic violence incident after being spotted in the Spring Garden area on Saturday – we have also learned that he was seen by a resident in the area attempting to steal a vehicle from her property.
Chief Bush said the Jacksonville and Piedmont Police in addition to Alabama State Troopers assisted in the pursuit.
