Over four inches of rain fell between Wednesday and Thursday resulting in some minor flooding around Chattooga County.  A flood warning remains in place until 1:45 PM this (Friday) afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia.

On Thursday, both Trion City Schools and Chattooga County Schools operated on a two-hour delay due to the possibility of flooded roads.  Only one city in street was closed on Thursday morning according to Trion Police Chief David Gilliland.  The Lyerly Dam Bridge was closed on Thursday by Chattooga County Public Works and will remain closed until the water recedes.  On Thursday evening Chattooga County EMA released a statement saying that Chattooga County Public Works Director Yancey Robinson was asking motorist not to remove caution tape that was in place to indicate the bridge at Lyerly was closed.

As of 3:45 AM Friday morning, the Chattooga River was at 15 feet – a foot above flood stage – and receding.
