K9 Unit in Polk Assists in Arrests of Drug Traffickers

On Monday, March 22, 2021, at approximately 12:56 pm, Officer Jones, Rockmart Police Department, stopped a 2016 Dodge Pickup driven by Richard Wallace on First Avenue at Clearwater St. During the stop, Corporal Stewart, Polk County Sheriff’s Department’s K-9 handler, assisted.

During the assist from Corporal Stewart, K-9 Thor alerted to narcotics in the vehicle. Richard Wallace and Misty Hamrick, a passenger in the vehicle, were placed under arrest upon the discovery of methamphetamine in the vehicle and in Hamrick’s purse. The methamphetamine weight was found to be well over the threshold for Trafficking in Methamphetamine, which if convicted, carries a minimum prison sentence. Additionally, there was a number of paraphernalia items found in the possession of Wallace and Hamrick
