Unemployment Rate is Up in Northwest Georgia

The Georgia Department of Labor reports that Northwest Georgia’s unemployment rate went up in December.  It increased by 3/10ths of a point, to 4.5 percent.
Walker County’s rate was up from 3.4 to 3.9 percent.  That represents 146 more people out of work over the month.
Catoosa County was up 3/10ths of a point to 3.2 percent.
Chattooga was up 1.1 percent, to 6.4 percent in December.
New claims for unemployment in the region were up by 81 percent from November to December, according to the labor department.
