Famed Summerville attorney Bobby Lee Cook was laid to rest on Thursday afternoon. Mr. Cook was buried on Lookout Mountain at Cloudland in a private ceremony at the Cloudland Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Mr. Cook’s decades long career took him around the world as a defense attorney. Cook’s courtroom style is believed to have been the inspiration for the Andy Griffith character “Matlock.”
Mr. Cook was born in rural Chattooga County in the Chattoogaville Community. He served his country in World War II and represented Chattooga County in the Georgia General Assembly.
On Thursday, county government employees stood along Commerce Street to show respect as the procession left from Earle Rainwater Funeral Home for Mr. Cook’s final resting place at Cloudland.
