A Polk County Grand Jury has returned indictments against State Representative, Trey Kelly and Ryan Dover in connection with the death of a bicyclist over a year ago.
These charges stem from an accident in which bicyclist, Eric Keais died about being hit by a vehicle as he biked on Main St. in Cedartown, Georgia in September 2019. The driver of the vehicle was Ryan Dover, who has been charged with felony counts of hit and run and reckless conduct.
The news release states that Dover did not immediately stop and contact law enforcement and emergency medical services, as required by law, but instead immediately contacted Kelley to come to the scene. State Representative Trey Kelly has been indicted on a single count of reckless conduct.
While Eric Keais laid in a ditch on the side of the road, neither law enforcement nor emergency medical services were contacted until approximately 45 minutes after the incident. Keais was in obvious need of emergency medical attention and later died from his injuries. Kelley’s attorney, Lester Tate, told Polk.Today that his client will likely turn himself in Friday and that he plans to present evidence showing Kelley’s innocence.
