A Chattooga County deputy on patrol Saturday morning was involved in a high-speed chase that led into Walker County. During the chase, the fleeing vehicle reportedly sideswiped another vehicle.
According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was on patrol near the Mountain View intersection on Highway 27 when he observed a silver BMW with Tennessee tags that was driving well below the posted speed limit and swerving. The deputy initiated a traffic stop near Scenic Hill Road. As the deputy that driver of the BMW sped off. The deputy gave chase.
The BMW exceeded speeds of over 100 miles per hour. The driver fled north into Walker County and turned onto Highway 151. The Chattooga County Deputy had 911 notify the Georgia State Patrol and Walker County Sheriff’s office. The deputy said that the drive ran several people off the road and eventually the deputy stopped the pursuit.
While the deputy was turning around to come back to Chattooga County, a driver approached the deputy and told him that the BMW had sideswiped her vehicle. Georgia State Troopers arrived on the scene and took over the investigation.
A BOLO was put out for the BMW from Tennessee, but it was not located. The deputy was able to get a tag number and the driver will be facing felony charges when they are apprehended.
