One of Chattooga County’s well-known veterans is going to be celebrating his 95th birthday next month. Billy Locklear received the Purple Heart and many other medals for his service in WWII. He served between 1943 and 1945, which included fighting at the Battle of Saipan in June 1944.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Locklear’s family is requesting friends and neighbors to send a card or a note to the former Marine for his birthday celebration.

He was born on August 7, 1925.
