Alabama Man Arrested in Chattooga on DUI Charge

A forty-year-old Cedar Bluff, Alabama man was arrested last Friday and charged with DUI after a traffic stop on Back Berryton Road.

According to a report released by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Anthony Eugene Hamby made a “rolling stop” at the intersection of Racoon Creek and Back Berryton Road.   A deputy on patrol followed the grey Chevrolet Silverado and observed the driver failing to maintain a single lane.  The deputy initiated a traffic stop in the 1800 block of Back Berryton Road.

According to the deputy, Hamby had a strong smell of alcohol on his breath and red, bloodshot eyes.  A red Solo cup was sitting in the console with alcohol inside the cup.  Mr. Hamby told the deputy he had around six alcoholic drinks before driving that evening.

Hamby denied knowing what was in the Solo cup.

He was arrested on charges of DUI and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
