Alabama Governor Issues Statewide Mask Order

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has issued a statewide mask order. The order states a face covering must be worn in public when in close contact with other people.

It added that all Alabama residents must wear a mask when within 6 feet of a person from another household; in an indoor space open to the public; a vehicle operated by a transportation service such as Uber; or an outdoor public space where 10 or more people are gathered.

The order goes into effect today (July 16) at 5 pm and will run until July 31, at least.

The order carries a penalty of $500 or jail time.

There are exceptions to the order, such as children under than 6, people with certain medical conditions or disabilities; eating and drinking; and medical and dental procedures.
