Summerville Man Reportedly ‘Tried to Run Police Over’

A Summerville man who led Summerville Police, Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies, a Georgia DNR Ranger and the Georgia State Patrol on a chase that started in Summerville and ended with the suspect crashing in Floyd County on Monday, reportedly admitted to trying to “run them over” – referring to Chattooga County Deputies who tried to stop him as he fled from law enforcement.

Wyatt Keith Stanfield was booked into the Chattooga County Jail after he crashed his 2005 Kia Sorento at the intersection of Highway 156 and Highway 27 in Floyd County.

Stanfield was released to the custody of the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department after Deputy Jamey Dawson told the Georgia State Trooper that arrested Stanfield that the suspect had swerved and tried to hit sheriff’s deputies.

When Stanfield was transported to the hospital, he reportedly told the Emergency Room staff that he had been a chase with the police and tried to run them over.
