Counterfeit Money Used At a Local Store

An employee at Lucky’s Supermarket alerted the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office about some counterfeit money that was used to purchase some items last Thursday.

A cashier told a responding deputy that a male subject used a counterfeit $20 bill that was marked “movie money” to purchase $10.68 in items and received $9.32 in change.  The clerk said that the man waited until her checkout lane was busy before getting in line.  After the customer had already left, the cashier discovered the money was phony.

The incident was caught on surveillance video.

The case has been turned over to an investigator.
