An accident on Highway 27 in Gore near the Summerville Motel slowed traffic for a period of time on Monday evening. On Wednesday afternoon, the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome released information regarding the accident.
According to state troopers, a Jeep Wrangler driven by twenty-two-year-old Austin Parker of Summerville was traveling south on Highway 27 and failed to maintain his lane. Parker crossed over into the northbound lane and struck a F-150 Ford pickup driven by thirty-five-year-old Patrick McClain of Rome.
After the impact, the Jeep began to rotate counterclockwise and flipped several times, coming to a rest on the vehicle’s right side facing east. The pickup also rotated counterclockwise and exited the east shoulder, striking a road sign and then several trees before coming to an uncontrolled final rest facing west.
A witness stated that she saw the Jeep enter the northbound lane and almost struck her vehicle before hitting the truck. Parker, the Jeep driver, stated that he fell asleep while driving.
McClain was taken by ambulance to Redmond Regional Medical Center for treatment.
