19 Year Olds Arrested on Drug Charges

A Summerville Police officer arrested two suspects Friday morning after he observed the two sitting in a parked vehicle smoking from a glass pipe.

Police say that the two were sitting in a parked car at a vacant residence on Goodwin Drive in Summerville.  The officer said that when he passed the vehicle while on patrol he observed the two suspects “ingesting drugs through inhalation while sitting in the vehicle.”

The vehicle pulled out of the driveway and followed the patrol car as it went by.  The suspects turned into the parking lot at Hammond Auto Parts in Summerville.  The officer then turned into the same parking lot and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver, identified as nineteen-year-old Cody Edwards did not have a valid driver’s license.  The passenger was identified as nineteen-year-old Chelsea Lea.

Lea had a glass pipe located in her jacket pocket with suspected methamphetamine residue.  An officer asked Edwards if there was anything illegal in the vehicle, to which he replied “no.” But when officers asked Lea the same question, she directed them to a book bag in the vehicle that contained a plastic drug pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue.

Both Edwards and Lea were arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on drug charges.
