Home decor store Pier 1 is closing their location in Rome. The store located in the Riverbend Marketplace is just one of several hundred that will be closing nationwide. The company announced on Monday of this week that it was shuttering many of it’s “brick and mortar” stores in an effort to reorganize and show sustainable profits.
According to reports, about half of the Pier 1 stores nationwide will close and the company plans to try to compete with lower-priced online retailers. The stores aren’t the only ones feeling the crunch – the store’s corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas is also seeing major layoffs.
Pier 1 was founded in California in 1962 and expanded over the nation during the past five decades, but they have struggled to compete with online competitors like Wayfair.
The store in Rome is now advertising store closing specials.
