The Georgia State Patrol says one person is dead and another seriously injured after a crash early Sunday morning.
The accident happened around 4:40 AM on Georgia Highway 151 – the Old Alabama Highway – just south of Corinth Road in Walker County.
The Georgia State Patrol Post in LaFayette said that the accident involved a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro that was traveling south on 151 and rounded a curve. The driver, Marques Covington, went off the road and lost control of the vehicle before hitting an embankment. The car partially overturned and ejected Covington, who passed away from the injuries he sustained.
A passenger in the vehicle was entrapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The passenger, who was not identified, sustained serious injuries and was transported for treatment.
The Georgia State Patrol says that the driver was not wearing a seat belt and that impairment may have been a factor in the crash.
The crash is still being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol Post in LaFayette.
