Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters says that the damage at the Chattooga County Courthouse over the last weekend will likely top $30,000.
The commissioner says that a water supply line to a toilet upstairs, over the deed room, burst and caused the water damage. Winters said that in addition to the deed books that were damaged, water also damaged the plaster and carpet in the room.
The good news is that the county’s insurance will be footing the bill for the cleanup and repairs.
Winters added that it might take several weeks for the cleanup and repairs to be made.
