Wal-Mart Arrests Made

A Smith Street, Summerville woman was arrested last Friday morning at Wal-Mart after she was accused of trying to steal several items.

Wal-Mart loss prevention employees say that Melanie Sherrie Cordell went through the self-checkout line and “skip-scanned” multiple items.  She then is accused of bagging all the items, the ones she scanned and the ones she didn’t, and attempted to leave the store.

The total amount of goods not paid for was $123.20.

Cordell was arrested by a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on a charge of shoplifting.

Later the same afternoon in a separate incident, forty-three-year-old Shawn Douglas Simmons of a Jason Street, Trion address was stopped by Wal-Mart loss prevention employees after they say he attempted to leave the store with $42.18 worth of items.

Simmons was also arrested by Chattooga County Sheriff’s deputies and taken to the Chattooga County Jail on shoplifting charges.
