THE NUMBER OF HEPATITIS-A CASES CONTINUES TO GROW IN NORTHWEST GEORGIA… AND THEY’RE SPREADING SOUTH.
HIGH-PROFILE CASES CAUSED A SCARE WHEN RESTAURANT WORKERS IN FORT OGLETHORPE AND CHICKAMAUGA WERE DIAGNOSED WITH THE HIGHLY CONTAGIOUS DISEASE… AND NOW MORE THAN TWO DOZEN CASES HAVE BEEN REPORTED IN CHATTOOGA COUNTY.
THE NORTHWEST GEORGIA HEALTH DISTRICT, WHICH COVERS 10 COUNTIES DOWN TO ROME… HAVE REPORTED OVER 140 CASES OVERALL.
HEP-A SEEMS TO SPREAD MOST EASILY IN DRUG USE AND JAIL POPULATIONS… MEN WHO HAVE SEX WITH MEN… AND AMONG THOSE WITH CHRONIC LIVER DISEASE.
HAND WASHING IS THE NUMBER-ONE DEFENSE AGAINST HEPATITIS-A… AND VACCINATIONS ARE AVAILABLE AT ALL AREA HEALTH DEPARTMENT OFFICES AS WELL.
