19-year-old Student Charged With Attempted Murder After ASU Stabbing

Authorities in Arizona are looking into the stabbing of a student on the Arizona State University campus last week, which resulted in another student being arrested.

According to 12 News, AZ Central, and FOX 10 Phoenix, Mara Daffron was stabbed on Thursday, September 19, while walking into a class on campus in Glendale, Arizona.

Fellow student Kaci Sloan, 19, was detained shortly after the attack, according to 12 News, AZ Central, and ASU’s The State Press. A spokeswoman for ASU confirmed the arrest in a statement to PEOPLE.

“Kaci Sloan was immediately detained and arrested on suspicion of first-degree attempted murder; aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; interfering with an educational institution; and disorderly conduct,” an ASU spokeswoman told PEOPLE. “She is being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond.”

According to Maricopa County online court records, Sloan is currently charged with aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct with a weapon.

Authorities said in unnamed court filings that Sloan informed them she had a deliberate plot to carry out the alleged attack, according to PEOPLE.
