JOLIET, Ill. – A 15-year-old kid has been accused as the second person in connection with a shooting that occurred last month in a Joliet parking lot and injured two teenagers.
The youngster and Marcus Gilbert, 19, have been charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated violence, and aggravated discharge of a handgun.
On August 28, at 9:11 p.m., Joliet police responded to reports of a shooting in the 300 block of Western Avenue. Officers established that the incident occurred near the Western Food Mart parking lot, and two casualties were discovered on the 300 block of Bluff Street.
A 17-year-old boy was wounded in the calf, while a 15-year-old youngster had a bullet wound to the buttock. Both teenagers were sent to a local hospital in stable condition.
Police suspect the teens were shot as they approached the parking lot, one on foot and the other by bicycle. Detectives identified Gilbert as a suspect, and he was apprehended by the United States Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force on September 10.
Gilbert was already on pretrial release from an April 2024 gun-related felony when he was arrested.
Joliet investigators questioned the 15-year-old on Tuesday. He was apprehended on Thursday and transported to the River Valley Justice Center.
