A 13-year-old girl has been charged with murder in the death of her eight-year-old cousin, according to District Attorney General Fredrick Agee.

According to the district attorney, 13-year-old La’Quvanah Parson of Columbia, South Carolina, and her eight-year-old cousin, Demeria Hollingsworth, were visiting family in Humbolt, Tennessee, when the murder occurred on July 15.

According to Agee, Humboldt County detectives discovered the eight-year-old girl’s body in the upstairs bedroom of a Mitchell Street home. According to the district attorney, Parson, 12, was in the upstairs bedroom purposefully suffocating the eight-year-old with bedding and her entire body weight, as captured on video surveillance.

According to Agee, the video also shows Parson returning to Hollingsworth’s body to brush blood off her face and reposition her under the covers.

“Demetria Hollingsworth was sleeping in bed when she was viciously attacked by her cousin Parson. We will continue to work for Demeria’s justice and hold Parson responsible for her death.

This is a very painful issue for everyone involved, and we ask that you keep Demeria’s family in your thoughts and prayers,” Agee added.

Parson was transferred to adult court on September 24 and charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence on Monday, September 30.
