The San Antonio Police Department apprehended a 12-year-old child on Sunday after he threatened to shoot up several San Antonio schools.

The child posted an image of an assault rifle on Instagram, along with a list of seven San Antonio schools and the dates he intended to attack.

The schools were Tafolla Middle School, Sarah S. King Elementary, Idea School, Alonso S. Perales Elementary, Ramiro P. Estrada Achievement, Rhodes Middle School, and Abraham Kazen Middle School.

SAPD captured the boy without incident on Sunday night, assisted by other law enforcement agencies. The child was charged with seven counts of felony terroristic threats.

San Antonio ISD said in a Facebook post that security across the district is increasing this week for added safety.

“As a precaution, we will increase police presence on our campuses this week to ensure everyone’s safety. We are and will always be cautious in protecting everyone in our care. Again, the post is not believable,” the statement said.

SAISD further stated that “all is safe” following the arrest of the culprit.

“There were no weapons at the suspect’s home, and officers affirm the threat was not credible,” officials said. “We take all potential threats seriously, and we will continue to take additional safety measures to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff.”

SAPD urged parents to watch their children’s social media activities and report any questionable behavior.

The warning came only days after a 14-year-old gunman killed two pupils and two teachers in Georgia. The gunman’s father was also charged with providing his son with the semiautomatic AR-15-style firearm used in the shooting.
