$1.75 Million Earmark Boosts Alpena College’s Capacity for Student Accommodation

Northeast Michigan is still having a hard time with living, but Alpena Community College is making things better for its students.

They will soon have more housing for their kids thanks to an earmark for $1.75 million that Senator Gary Peters backed. At the moment, all 64 of their beds are being used in their two apartment buildings. Even more would be possible with this new project, which will cost around $4.7 million. “The plan is to build homes for 32 more students,” ACC president Don MacMaster said. “This would be good for both of us and them.” We believe we can easily fill that position.

Because all of their beds are taken, the college is missing out on students who want to come to the area. He said, “We don’t have a place for them to stay, and they can’t find a place to stay downtown.” People sometimes say, “I’d love to come, but I can’t.” This is bad for the college, the students, and the society as a whole.

The new building will likely be built next to the other ones, across from Johnson Street. There have also been talks about growing even more after this project is over if the need remains.
